Hot melt adhesive for book and magazine binding comes in various colors, including milky white, transparent, light yellow, off-white semi-transparent, and dark yellow. It is categorized by application into edge adhesive and backing adhesive. Edge adhesive is used for bonding covers and generally needs to be softer than backing adhesive, with less stringent color requirements. It requires high adhesion. Backing adhesive requires slightly higher color and greater hardness. By shape, it is most commonly found in cylindrical granules, round granules, and blocks. Generally, the more yellow the hot melt adhesive, the stronger its adhesion.
