Introduction To EVA Hot Melt Adhesive

EVA hot melt adhesive is a solvent-free, water-free, 100% solid, fusible polymer. It is solid at room temperature and melts into a flowable, viscous liquid adhesive when heated to a certain degree. After melting, it is a light brown, translucent or off-white substance. The main component of hot melt adhesive, the basic resin, is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate under high pressure, combined with tackifiers, viscosity modifiers, antioxidants, etc., to create the hot melt adhesive.

EVA is a plastic material composed of ethylene (E) and vinyl acetate (VA). The ratio of these two chemicals can be adjusted to meet different application needs. A higher vinyl acetate (VA content) content results in improved transparency, softness, and toughness.

Ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (also known as ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer) is obtained by copolymerizing ethylene (E) and vinyl acetate (VA). Its English name is Ethylene Viny Acetate, abbreviated as EVA or E/VAC. Polymerization methods include high-pressure bulk polymerization (for plastics), solution polymerization (PVC processing aids), emulsion polymerization (adhesives), and suspension polymerization. Emulsion polymerization is used for vinyl acetate (VA) content higher than 30%, while high-pressure bulk polymerization is used for lower VA content. EVA has a wide range of applications.

Generally, EVA with a vinyl acetate content below 5% is mainly used for films, LDPE modifiers for wires and cables, and adhesives; EVA with a vinyl acetate content of 5%-10% is used for elastic films; EVA with a vinyl acetate content of 20%-28% is mainly used for hot melt adhesives and coating products; and EVA with a vinyl acetate content of 5%-45% is mainly used for films (including agricultural films) and sheets, injection molded and molded products, foamed products, and hot melt adhesives. It is widely used in foamed shoe materials, functional greenhouse films, packaging molds, hot melt adhesives, wires and cables, and toys.
